COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina sand volleyball team swept Carson-Newman 5-0 on Friday afternoon to open play in the Gamecock Invitational at the Carolina Sand Volleyball Complex.

With the win, the Gamecocks improve to 8-2 on the season and extend their winning streak to four duals. Carson-Newman drops to 0-2 on the year.

Carolina’s No. 4 pair of Jade Hayes and Macie Tendrich made quick work of Carson-Newman’s Lindsey Wells and Morgan Harlan to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead, winning by the scores of 21-4 and 21-7.

The Gamecocks went up 2-0 after Paige Wheeler and Megan Kent claimed the No. 2 pairs match over the Eagles’ Taylor Lowe and Sara Fairley by the scores of 21-8 and 21-11.

In the No. 3 pairs match, the tandem of Jade Vitt and Sarah Blomgren clinched the win for the Gamecocks as they defeated Carson-Newman’s Kristina Hill and Kristen Picket by the scores of 21-9 and 21-10.

The Gamecocks took a 4-0 lead after KoKo Atoa-Williams and Allie Monserez topped Carson-Newman’s No. 5 pair of Anna Patton and Lauren Santarelli, 21-12 and 21-10.

The No. 1 pairs between Carolina’s Maddie Frome and Julia Mannisto and the Eagles’ Rachel Harper and Jenna Wilson went back and forth. After Harper and Wilson took the first set 21-14, Frome and Mannisto bounced back to even the match with a 23-21 win in the second set. The Gamecock duo then completed the sweep with a 15-10 win in the third set.

In the exhibition match, the Gamecock pair of Erin Neuenfeldt and Litsa Darby dispatched Carson-Newman’s Eileen Anderson and Kiayna O’Neal by the scores of 21-12 and 21-4.

The Gamecocks will be back in action tonight against Arizona State. First serve is set for 7. The dual will be streamed live on the SEC Network+ digital platform.
