University of South Carolina senior Sam Chiodo was named SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Month for the second straight time this season, the league office announced on Monday.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina senior Sam Chiodo was named SEC Co-Horsemanship Rider of the Month, it was announced Monday by the league office.
This marks Chiodo’s second time being named SEC Rider of the Month, as the senior was also recognized by the conference as its Horsemanship Rider of the Month for February. She becomes the fifth Gamecock all-time to be named SEC Rider of the Month multiple times. She also becomes the first Gamecock rider to win back-to-back SEC Rider of the Month awards in the same season.
Chiodo went 1-0 during March with one MVP, as the Gamecocks knocked off No. 3 Baylor, 12-6, on March 6. She defeated her Baylor opponent, 80.5-78.5 to earn her fourth MVP of the season. She currently leads the horsemanship team with a 10-1-1 record, and Chiodo is undefeated in SEC meets with a 5-0-1 record.
The Gamecocks return to action on Friday, March 27 when South Carolina faces Texas A&M in the opening round of the SEC Championship in College Station. The winner will face the winner of the Georgia/Auburn meet on March 28 in the championship meet.
