COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin and his wife Anya joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) in a Suits and Sneakers event at the South Carolina State House in Columbia. The Martins challenged dozens of South Carolina legislators to wear sneakers to work on Wednesday to demonstrate support for cancer survivors, patients and caregivers, as well as to honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.

“Cancer touches everyone so it’s important to take a moment to show support for those who are fighting the disease,” said Martin. “But we are also here to remember those who fought bravely but are no longer with us. We have a long road ahead of us to ultimately defeat this disease, hence we need to unite. All of us coaches, teachers, doctors, attorneys and South Carolina legislators need to come together to fight and overcome this deadly disease.”

The Martins were introduced prior to the start of a session in the House of Representatives before meeting with legislators and ACS CAN volunteers. A press conference followed with remarks from ACS CAN members Nancy Cheney and Pansy Yates, also from Representative Mrs. Raye Felder and Senator Nikki Setzler before Coach Martin addressed the cameras.

The Martins will host the “Third Annual B-Ball of the South” on May 1, the couple’s “Coaches vs. Cancer” benefit. For more information on the event, click here to read more.
