The South Carolina sand volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon at the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU.
The Gamecocks began the day with a 3-2 victory over Tulane and then finished off the weekend with a 5-0 win over New Orleans. With the wins, Carolina ends the season with a 14-7 record, which is nearly triple the win total of its inaugural season (5-12).
In the dual with Tulane, Carolina got off to a strong start, building a 2-0 lead with wins at No. 4 and No. 5. Jade Hayes and Macie Tendrich won in straight sets over Tulane’s Hannah Holmes and Christian McAfee 21-12 and 21-14, while KoKo Atoa-Williams and Allie Monserez defeated Courtney Liddle and Annie Shurtz 21-8, 16-21 and 15-9.
Tulane tied the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Paige Wheeler and Megan Kent fell to Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner 21-19 and 21-19, while Tualne’s Madeline Mertz and Lan Nguyen defeated Sarah Blomgren and Jade Vitt in three sets with scores of 21-17, 17-21 and 15-5.
The No. 2 pair of Julia Mannisto and Maddie Frome clinched the win for the Gamecocks defeating Tulane’s Grace Weaver and Miah Direll 15-21, 21-12 and 15-10.
In the win over New Orleans the Gamecocks claimed all five matches in two sets.
The No. 1 due of Megan Kent and Paige Wheeler defeated New Orleans’s Brooklyn Frank and Lauren Levy 21-11and 21-16.
In the No. 2 match Carolina’s Maddie Frome and Julia Mannisto took down Carea Sander and Mikayla Wieb 21-10 and 1-15.
The Gamecock tandem of Sarah Blomgren and Jade Vitt defeated Kelsea Hundtoft and Camila Lau 21-11 and 21-6.
The Gamecocks’ Jade Hayes and Macie Tendrich made quick work of New Orleans’ Celeste Ramirez and Taylor Berry winning by scores of 21-8 and 21-3.
In the No. 5 match Erin Neuenfeldt and Litsa Darby defeated Ashley Everett and Courtney Roblez 21-8 and 21-7.
