COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina men’s tennis alumnus Thiago Pinheiro’s run at the World University Games ended on Sunday with a loss to the tournament’s No. 11 seed at the Jinwol International Tennis Courts in Gwangju City, Korea.

Pinheiro stormed through his first-round singles match but faced the world’s No. 809 player in Patrick Thomas Ofner of Austria in the second round. The Gamecocks’ Brazilian got down early, falling 6-2, 6-2 to bow out of the tournament.

In doubles action Saturday, Pinheiro and partner Victor Cruz Morales dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Americans Austin Rapp and Martin Redlicki, who are teammates at UCLA.
