PINEHURST, N.C. – South Carolina women’s golfer Katelyn Dambaugh saw her run at the North & South Women’s Amateur Championship end on Friday, as the rising junior lost (3 and 2) in the semifinals of the tournament at Pinehurst Country Club.

Top-seeded Dambaugh fell behind early to fourth-seeded Bethany Wu, who notched birdies on two of the first three holes. A bogey by Wu on No. 6 cut Dambaugh’s deficit to one, but two bogeys by Dambaugh on No. 7 and 8 pushed her deficit up to three.

Wu extended her advantage to 4-up out of the turn before Dambaugh recorded her first birdie of the morning on No. 11 to get back within three. Both golfers recorded pars on the remaining five holes, and the match ended on No. 16.

Dambaugh finished her week at Pinehurst No. 2 course with two match-play victories and medalist honors after finishing with the championship’s top stroke play score (+8). Her 2-under (68) on Wednesday marked the field’s only round under par during stroke play.
