Gamecocks Receive NABC Team Academic Excellence Award
KANSAS CITY, MO. – A trio of Gamecocks were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2014-15 Honors Court, as the organization released its annual list Thursday afternoon. Brian Steele and Mindaugas Kacinas joined two-time honoree Austin Constable on the list, which acknowledges academic achievements across every division of college basketball.
“Mindaugas, Brian and Austin are being singled out by the NABC for their academic successes as juniors and seniors during the past school year,” head coach Frank Martin said. “Congratulations to our team for the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and to these three individuals.”
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. They must academically be a junior or senior and a varsity player, and must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. Over 1,000 student-athletes from more than 350 different schools made the list.
