Mark Berson had a decision to make.
It was 1978 and just one year earlier in his first season as a college head coach in the 1977 season he had led The Citadel to the school’s best-ever record at 11-5.
At the time, Berson had aspirations of moving into the administration side of college athletics and actually had an offer from the College of Charleston to work in their athletics department.
He also had an offer to come to the University of South Carolina and start the men’s soccer program.
Ultimately, Berson made the decision to come to South Carolina and the rest is history.
