Giangaspro Readies for 2015 With Solid Summer

Aug. 5, 2015

COLUMBIA, S.C. – As a freshman, Hannah Giangaspro came to the Gamecocks cross country and track programs as an accomplished distance runner in the prep ranks from Florida. She would run in five events for the cross country program, including a spot on the SEC Championship group.

She would grow in to her potential during the outdoor track season, which was capped off by a 10K time at the SEC Championships that ranks eighth in school history (37:07.02). During the Spring she would set a qualifying standard in the 5K that earned her a trip to Eugene for the USATF Junior Nationals, and her results there have the coaching staff eager to see her in action again for the Fall.

At nationals, Giangaspro would cross in a time of 17:35.98, just two seconds off her personal best from the regular season, and finished seventh overall. When compared to her top 5K time from the 2014 cross country season (18:50.46), it is easy to see that Giangaspro won’t have much trouble avoiding the sophomore slump for Carolina in 2015.
