CLEMSON, S.C. – South Carolina (2-1) fell in its first road match of the season, dropping a 3-0 decision at No. 9 Clemson on Friday night at Riggs Field.

Oliver Shannon started the scoring for Clemson in the 26th minute, putting the shot in under the dive of the Gamecock goalkeeper. Austen Burnikle and Iman Mafi both assisted on the goal.

That lead grew to 2-0 in the 33rd minute when TJ Casher’s strike found the far post and caromed into the net.

Clemson made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute on Shannon’s second goal of the night, a shot from 15 yards away that snuck just inside the near post.

The Gamecocks fired four shots on goal in the contest, two in each half.

Notables:
• A total of 7,868 fans filed into Riggs Field for the match.
• Freshman Bjorn Gudjonsson provided a spark off the bench, making a team-best three shots, one of those on goal.
• Redshirt senior Asa Kryst, who was injured in last year’s meeting, made two shots in his 42 minutes of play.
• Always a physical contest between the rivals, both teams were called for 19 fouls.
