When you are the head coach at a school for nearly four decades, you have the opportunity to touch a lot of lives and make a huge impact. However, it’s how you handle that role and the responsibilities that come with it that decide how much of an impact you make and whether it’s for good or bad.

South Carolina head coach Mark Berson has made the most of his opportunities as head coach for the Gamecocks. In the midst of his 38th season as the man in charge, Berson’s influence has reached a lot farther than the city of Columbia.

He’s coached not only players that have went on to be Olympic and international stars, but those that have gone on to be doctors, dentists, engineers, musicians and coaches.

“He was just focused on making you a better person, a better family member, a better husband and a better friend,” former South Carolina All-American and current Vice President of S&ME Marty Baltzegar said.
