In its last time out, Carolina’s cross country team battled the elements and their SEC rivals at the conference championship meet, hosted by Texas A&M. Mary Reiser posted the third-fastest 6K time in program history to lead the way, Carolina placed 13th as a team.

Reiser continues to out-do herself as she hits the home stretch of what has been a career year, running a time of 20:45.7 to finish 29th overall. It was 25 seconds faster than her previous personal best, which was set on Oct. 2 at the Paul Short run, and moves her past Jenny Lake’s 2003 time of 20:48 and into sole possession of the third-fastest 6K time ever. It was also the program’s second-fastest time at a conference championship, behind Lake’s 2001 time of 20:42.13.

In total, six of the team’s ten finishers would enjoy a new personal best, despite windy and rainy conditions that brought a tornado warning to the area earlier in the day. Sophomores Hannah Giangaspro (22:10.1) and Monica York (22:15) reached new PRs and also finished in the top 100. Freshmen Alexis Malmberg and Samantha Farmer had season bests and were able to experience their first conference meet. In all, seven of the ten finishers are either sophomores or freshman.
