CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – South Carolina women’s golfer Katelyn Dambaugh sits in a tie for third place at the Dixie Amateur after firing a 4-under (68) in Wednesday’s opening round at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla.
Dambaugh, who began her day on the par-4 10th, tallied four birdies in the first round, including three over her final nine holes. Her first birdie came at the par-4 14th, and she made the turn at 1-under (35) before adding birdies on holes No. 2, 5 and 7. She earned pars on the remaining 14 holes and stands as one of just 24 golfers to record a round under par on the opening day.
The junior standout sits one stroke back of leaders Lauren Stephenson of Clemson and UCF’s Ashley Holder.
Dambaugh is back in action on Thursday (12:20 p.m. ET) when she resumes tournament play at TPC Eagle Trace. The Goose Creek, S.C., native will once again be paired up with France’s Camille Gollety and Charlotte LaFourcade. Gollety (T-17) recorded a 1-under (71) on Wednesday, while LaFourcade (T-69) opened with a 4-over (76).
