CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ââ’¬” South Carolina women’s golfer Katelyn Dambaugh concluded play at the Dixie Amateur on Saturday, tallying a 3-over (75) at TPC Eagle Trace on her way to fourth place. She totaled a score of 285 (-3) and finished as one of just eight golfers to end the 72-hole event under par.
The Goose Creek, S.C., native marks the second Gamecock to earn a top-five finish at the annual event in the last two years. Former South Carolina standout Justine Dreher grabbed second-place honors after falling in a three-hole playoff in 2014.
Following a bogey on the par-4 second, Dambaugh responded with birdies on holes No. 6 and 8 and made the turn at even (36) after recording another bogey on No. 7. She turned in a 3-over (39) on the back nine, suffering a bogey on No. 11 and a double-bogey on No. 12. The South Carolina junior finished her week with 12 birdies.
Lauren Stephenson of Clemson claimed medalist honors after finishing with a four-day total of 281 (-7), while Mexico’s Maria Fassi (-5) and Samantha Wagner (-4) of Florida rounded out the top three spots. This year’s tournament featured two rounds at TPC Eagle Trace and Heron Bay Golf Club.
Dambaugh and the Gamecocks resume their 2015-16 slate in February when they open play at the Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee, Fla. The three-day event at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course gets underway on Friday, Feb. 12.
