SEA ISLAND, Ga. — Four members of the University of South Carolina golf team are competing at the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational, held at the Ocean Forest Golf Club. Keenan Huskey, Matt NeSmith, Will Starke and Scott Stevens are spending the weekend playing alongside top amateurs from around the globe, with Starke leading the Carolina quartet after one round.

Starke is tied for fifth through Friday’s action after shooting an even par 72. The Chapin, S.C., native carded three birdies and three bogeys to trail University of Texas sophomore Taylor Funk by three strokes through 18 holes.

NeSmith is tied for 11th after shooting a 74 (+2). The senior leads the event with five birdies through one day of play.

Stevens is tied for 29th after a 76 (+4) that included two birdies. Huskey rounds out the Gamecock quartet at five-over 77, tied for 37th.

Up Next for the Gamecocks

The four Gamecocks will each play 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday to complete the 54-hole event. The full Carolina team opens the spring season Feb. 19-21 at the All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas.
