COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major on Wednesday announced the signing of hunt seat rider Madison Sellman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima High School) to a National Letter of Intent to joint the Gamecocks for the 2016-17 season. Sellman will compete in equitation on the flat and equitation over fences for the Gamecocks.

“We’re excited to have Maddie sign with us and we’d like to welcome her to the Gamecock family,” Major said. “We’ve gotten to know Maddie and her family very well during the recruiting process and she’s going to be a great addition to our team. She’s really developed in to a top tier rider over the last few years and she continues to get better and better, and she’s someone that we decided we had to have in our program.”

Sellman trains with Stacia Madden.

Last year, Sellman posted a top-20 finish at the ASPCA Maclay Finals. She also finished sixth at both the North American Equitation Championship and the Region 5 Maclay Regionals. At the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Talent Search Finals, Sellman finished in eighth place. In 2014, she finished 10th at the USEF Medal Finals.

A senior at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, Sellman is on the High Honor Roll, the National Honors Society, and the Spanish National Honors Society. She is also active in community service as a member of the Interact Club.

Her parents are Tom and Connie Sellman, and she has on older brother, Justin Sellman.

Sellman chose South Carolina over Georgia and Bucknell.

While at South Carolina, Sellman plans to major in biological sciences.
