COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s basketball senior Mindaugas Kacinas was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team Thursday afternoon. He is one of five Division I players on the District 4 team and is the first Gamecock to make the list under head coach Frank Martin.
The forward from Klaipeda, Lithuania is one of four SEC players to be a part of the list, and is now in the running to become the program’s first Academic All-American in 40 years. Two Gamecock men’s basketball players were previously named All-Americans (John Roche in 1970 and 1971, Mike Dunleavy in 1976).
Kacinas holds a 3.39 cumulative grade point average as a Hospitality Management major. On the court this season, he has started in every game and is averaging career highs in points (10.3), rebounds (5.5) and minutes (29.6) per game.
The Gamecocks will be back in action Saturday, hosting No. 22/21 Kentucky at Colonial Life Arena. Tip time is set for noon and will air on ESPN.
