COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major on Thursday announced the signing of Katie Mack (Oregon City, Ore./Canby High School) to a national letter of intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2016-17 season. Mack is a hunt seat rider and will be able to compete in equitation on the flat and equitation over fences for the Gamecocks.

“We’ve had a lot of success recruiting some of the best riders on the west coast and we think Katie is going to be a great addition to our team,” Major said. “Katie trains with Shelley and Jeff Campf, who are the two best trainers in the northwest and two of the top trainers on the west coast, so we know she’ll come in here ready to go. Right now, we’re looking at her to come in the lineup as a flat rider but she’ll also have a chance to show for us in equitation over fences.”

During her junior career, Mack qualified for the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Medal Finals, ASPCA Maclay Finals, and the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Medal Finals. She was the Champion in the 1.3 meter junior jumpers and won two consecutive flat equitation classes at HITS Thermal last year.

Her parents are Bob Mack and Barb Crabbe, and she has a younger sister, Jamie Mack.

A senior at Canby High School, Mack is on the varsity choir team.

Mack has been a lifelong Gamecock fan and has wanted to attend the University of South Carolina since she was in fourth grade.
