COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina volleyball program announced its 2016 spring season, with a pair of tournaments at home and two road trips to ACC schools. The Gamecocks are gearing up for a much-anticipated fall under sixth-year head coach Scott Swanson. The team’s two home tournaments are free and open to the public, but fans are encouraged to bring their own seating as space will be limited.
The season kicks off on March 26, when the team heads to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Spring Tournament. The one-day event will offer South Carolina four high-profile opponents, including one familiar program. The team will open the day against South Alabama, then will play South Florida, SEC rival Tennessee and close out the day against host Georgia Tech.
The schedule ramps up with even more regional rivals on the schedule at Duke’s spring tournament on April 2. The Gamecocks are scheduled to face Duke to start the morning, then Elon to end the morning session. In the afternoon, the team will wrap up the competition with matches against Wake Forest and North Carolina.
The home portion of the spring schedule begins the next weekend, April 9, welcoming in six teams from the region for a day-long tournament. The Gamecocks will face, in order, USC Upstate, Campbell, Winthrop and Gardner Webb.
Closing out the exhibition season will be an April 16 tournament, also at the Carolina Volleyball Center. South Carolina will be in a four-team pool with Campbell, USC Aiken and Davidson. In pool two will be N.C. State, USC Upstate, Gardner Webb and Winthrop. Following pool play, there will be one crossover match between pools based on the team’s tournament records.
