COLUMBIA, S.C. — Redshirt sophomore Thomas Mayronne of the South Carolina men’s tennis team has been named to the SEC Men’s Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. The conference sponsors community service teams in all 21 sports to highlight student-athletes who give back to their community.

The Monroe, La., native led the team’s efforts with Team Impact, an organization that matches children facing life-threatening or chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams. Through his leadership, the team welcomed local brothers, Cole (7) and Jamison (6) Porter, as honorary team members, complete with a signing day party at Williams-Brice Stadium. The bond reached off the court as well as the squad conducted outings with the boys that included Trick or Treating, an ice cream social, bowling and a visit to the Zoo.

Mayronne also read books to a classroom of students at Rosewood Elementary School, served on a student-athlete panel at Hand Middle School and worked in the school’s Presidential Gardens as a member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Furthermore, he and the rest of the men’s tennis program participated in Movember during the month of November to raise awareness for men’s health.

South Carolina men’s tennis begins play in the SEC Tournament Thursday at 10 a.m. ET. For updates and team information, stay tuned to www.GamecocksOnline.com or follow the team on Twitter and Instagram (@GamecockMTennis).
