Syracuse owns a 3-1 lead in the all-time series between the two schools entering November’s matchup. The first meeting between the Gamecocks and Orange came in a 71-64 Syracuse win at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 7, 1979. Syracuse won the next two meetings (Jan. 24, 1999/Jan. 13, 2000) and the Gamecocks won the most recent, a 66-59 victory in the semifinals of the NIT at Madison Square Garden on March 26, 2002.

South Carolina head coach Frank Martin has faced Syracuse once during his career. His 2011-12 Kansas State squad fell to No. 1 seed Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The matchup will be the third for the Gamecocks at the Barclays Center under the direction of Martin, who enters his fifth season leading Carolina in 2016-17. The Gamecocks are 2-0 at the venue, with wins over Manhattan during the 2012-13 season, and an upset win over ninth-ranked Iowa State during the 2014-15 campaign.
