From Brian Hand, Spurs & Feathers
South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner took some time out of his busy schedule to talk with Spurs & Feathers executive editor Brian Hand in his office about the start of his fifth year as athletics director and much more.
You officially began your duties as athletics director four years ago (Aug. 2, 2012) at South Carolina. What are you looking forward to the most as you start year No. 5 on the job?
I continue to look forward to the growth of our student-athletes and our athletics department. I’ve been passionate about this school for a long, long time, and to have been a coach here for many years and now heading into my fifth year as athletics director, the growth and the investment is what excites me.
I think we have made a lot of progress here over the years and so many people have been responsible for that with great coaches and you go back to (former athletics directors) Mike McGee and Eric Hyman, and now I’m working hard with our administration to continue to invest in our student-athletes and coaches to give them an opportunity to be successful at a high level academically and athletically. What excites me the most is continued growth.
