COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s and women’s soccer programs opened the doors to their brand new team facility Tuesday, allowing the public and media to tour the building and meet members of both soccer programs.

Fans had the opportunity to tour the new Gamecock Soccer Complex, an 11,000-square-foot facility that houses individual team locker rooms, lounges and study rooms, athletic training therapy tubs, a 3,000-square-foot weight room, a cleat room and a film room.

Members and coaches of both teams were on hand to mingle with fans and provide a look at what it’s like to be a Gamecock soccer player. Season ticket holders were also able to pick up their customized Gamecocks Soccer vuvuzelas.

“It’s been a fun afternoon,” men’s soccer head coach Mark Berson said. “Opening it up for our fans to come in and for people that have purchased season tickets already to be able to come in and pick up their vuvuzelas is just a great thing. It’s been a day that I think a lot of people will enjoy the chance to be on the inside of the soccer team and see where we live and what we do.”

“We are all excited for the new era of Gamecock soccer,” women’s soccer head coach Shelley Smith said. “It’s exciting to showcase this amazing facility to the public and our fans. People are excited for the season to start.”

The men’s squad hits the field at Stone Stadium for the first time this Thursday, hosting Winthrop in an exhibition at 7 p.m. Carolina hosts Clemson in its regular-season opener on Fri., Aug. 26, at 7 p.m.

The women’s team opens the regular season with matches on the road at Oklahoma on Fri., Aug. 19, and against Tulsa Sun., Aug. 21. The Gamecocks open their home slate on Thurs., Aug. 25, against NC State at 7 p.m.
