Carolina Concludes First Day at Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA — The Gamecock men’s tennis team came out strong on day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday. The trio of Yancy Dennis, Thomas Mayronne and Andrew Schafer combined to go 3-1 on the day.
“The boys got off to a slow start but they turned it around with a great effort today,” said assistant coach Pablo Bellagamba. “We are looking to build on this strong finish the rest of the weekend and continue to improve on the goals we set forth going into the tournament.”
Friday’s play began with singles action. In the DI draw, Andrew Schafer was edged by Andrew Li, 6-4, 6-2. Over in the DII flight, Mayronne picked up a three-set victory over Auburn’s Conner Huertas, while Dennis took care of Georgia’s Alex Phillips in straight sets.
