COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a week that brought major changes to the NCEA national rankings, the University of South Carolina equestrian team held firm at the No. 8 spot, the organization announced Wednesday. Carolina opened the season at No. 8, and has remained in that position for each of the two regular-season updates.
The Gamecocks are one of just three teams to occupy the same spot they held Sept. 28, when the last NCEA rankings were released. South Carolina is 2-1 (1-1 SEC) after victories over Baylor and Georgia and a loss to Texas A&M.
The Aggies moved into the No. 1 position for the first time this season, leapfrogging Auburn, which fell to No. 2, and Georgia, which now sits third after falling to the Gamecocks, 9-8, Oct. 9. The SEC is the only conference to have four teams ranked in the latest edition of the poll.
Baylor and Fresno State round out the top-five, followed by SMU, TCU, the Gamecocks, Oklahoma State and New Mexico State. Eight of South Carolina’s nine remaining regular-season matchups are against teams currently ranked in the top-10.
UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS
The Gamecocks host No. 10 New Mexico State on Friday, Oct. 21 at One Wood Farm, located at 1201 Syrup Mill Rd., in Blythewood. The meet is the last of a five-event home stand to open the season and begins at 2 p.m. ET.
