Cross Country Set for SEC Championships
Oct. 27, 2016
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a fall with three Division I race wins, South Carolina’s cross country team faces its best field of the year in the 2016 Southeastern Conference Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas at its Agri Park.
The Gamecocks topped two full SEC teams in its 13th-place finish in the Crimson Classic, and they were missing one of the team’s top finishers throughout the year in freshman Anna Kathryn Stoddard. Stoddard returns and is among the four freshmen that make up the 12-woman team running in the Garnet and Black. Senior Mary Reiser has led the team in all her races this fall and looks to capture her second SEC award in her career, as she earned 2013 SEC All-Freshman Team honors.
The experienced Gamecocks running include sophomore Allison Mueller, redshirt junior Monica McCoy and juniors Monica York, Kaylee Wessel, Allie Sprague and Sarah Taylor. Taylor is in her first SEC meet as well as senior Kayla Scott, who transferred from Ohio this year. Other rookies for the Gamecocks are Stoddard and fellow freshmen Emily Crounse and Leah Ford along with redshirt freshman Colleen Openshaw.
