COLUMBIA, S.C. – Two South Carolina men’s soccer seniors were named to the NSCAA Men’s All-Southeast Region teams, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. Midfielder Danny Deakin was named to the first team for the second straight season, and midfielder Kurtis Turner landed on the third team.
Deakin, who was named First Team All-Conference USA for the second straight season, led the team in points with 20 (7G, 6A). He finished the regular season tied for third in the league in points. He was one of only two players in the top 10 of the C-USA’s points list to have six assists. Deakin’s five game-winning goals ranked 13th in the nation.
Turner, a four-year starter who was named Second Team All-Conference USA, quarterbacked the Gamecocks’ attack. He started all 20 matches, logging five points (1G, 3A). He finished the season ranked third on the team with 37 shots and fourth with 13 SOG. Turner scored the game-winning goal in the team’s 3-0 win at No. 18 Furman on Sept. 20.
Deakin and Turner both hail from Sheffield, England, and played youth soccer together growing up.
Carolina made its 22nd all-time appearance in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship this season after receiving an at-large bid.
