COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina equestrian team has added a pair of exhibition meets to the calendar as it begins preparations for the spring portion of the 2016-17 season. The Carolina western squad will face Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 28, while the Gamecock hunt seat team will face Converse College. The meets will run simultaneously beginning at 10 a.m. at One Wood Farm and admission is free.
“We’re happy to add Ohio State and Converse to our spring schedule; it gives our fans another opportunity to see us in action at One Wood Farm, and our student-athletes have a chance to compete before the regular season resumes,” South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. “Having an opportunity to ride against Converse is especially exciting for me, as both my mother and sister are Converse alums, so we’re glad both the Valkyries and the Buckeyes can join us on Jan 28.”
The Gamecocks enter the spring half of the season with a 3-3 record, including a 1-2 mark in SEC competition. The matchups with Ohio State and Converse will not count toward Carolina’s official record.
South Carolina has six official regular-season meets remaining in 2016-17, beginning Feb. 3 at SEC rival Georgia. Major’s team has two additional home dates left this season: Feb. 25 against Auburn and March 4 against SMU.
The postseason begins with the 2017 SEC Championship, to be held March 24-25 in Auburn, Ala., and the 2016-17 campaign concludes April 13-15 at the NCEA National Championship in Waco, Texas.
