No. 23 Gamecocks Host Palmetto State Rival

COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 23 South Carolina men’s tennis takes on in-state rival, Clemson, for the 110th time on Friday, March 10 at 4 p.m. in Columbia, S.C. at the Carolina Tennis Center. The Gamecocks are off to an 11-3 start overall and a 1-1 record in league play this season.
Certified SC Grown Palmetto Series
The winner of Friday’s match will earn its school another point in the Certified SC Grown Palmetto Series between South Carolina and Clemson. In the teams’ last meeting the Gamecocks defeated the Tigers 4-0 in Clemson, S.C. South Carolina leads the all-time series record 64-42-2. In the inaugural Palmetto Series (2015-16), the Gamecocks took the title 10-5.
GAMECOCK NOTABLES
- South Carolina is coming off split results in the opening weekend of SEC play, defeating LSU, 4-3, Friday and falling to No. 12 Texas A&M, 4-2, Sunday.
- The Gamecocks started SEC play with a win for the first time since 2009.
- The Gamecocks maintained a top-25 ranking for the third consecutive week in the Oracle/ITA Rankings released March 7.
- Junior Gabriel Friedrich came in at No. 51 in singles rankings this week.

- The Tigers are 8-5 in dual play and 1-1 in league play this season, coming off a 7-0 loss to Georgia Tech Friday, March 3.
- Clemson finished last season 16-14 overall and 7-8 in the ACC, falling to NC State in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
- The 2016-17 roster is made up of two freshmen, three juniors and five seniors.
- The Tigers are led by head coach John Boetsch in his first season at Clemson.
