KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — No. 24 South Carolina was unable to move up the leaderboard on the final day of the 2017 Irish Creek Intercollegiate as the team shot 297 (+13) to finish 10th. Sophomore Scott Stevens was the lone Gamecock to go under par in the final round as he shot a 1-under 70.

Stevens finished T-10th at 2-under (211) for the tournament. He leads the team with six top-10 finishes in the 2016-17 season. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native, finished second on the team this weekend with 10 birdies. He led the team with five birdies in the final round.

Freshman Jamie Wilson, who carded the low 18-hole round of the tournament for South Carolina with a second round 67 (-4) on Saturday, shot 75 (+4) on Sunday to finish T-31st. The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native tallied one birdie in the final round. Fellow freshman Caleb Proveaux, who was playing as an individual for the Gamecocks, had the low round of the day for the Gamecocks. He shot a final round 68 (-3) to finish T-38th at 4-over. The 68 was his first career round in the 60s and a new career 18-hole low. The Lexington, S.C., native, had just one bogey Sunday and four birdies.

Junior Keenan Huskey shot 75 (+4) and finished T-47th at 6-over, marking just the second time he finished outside the top 20 in the 2016-17 season for the Gamecocks. His 12 birdies at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate led the team. Sophomores Ryan Stachler and Will Miles each posted final round 77s (+6). Stachler finished T-60th and Miles T-68th.

North Florida took home the team title at 14-under after shooting a final round 278 (-6) on Sunday. No. 8 Wake Forest was the runner-up at 12-under after carding a field best 276 (-8) in the third round. Cristobal Del Solar of Florida State, the 18th-ranked player in NCAA Division I, was the medalist at 8-under. He shot 72, 65, 68 en route to the individual tournament title.

Round Changer Scott Stevens

After his 1-under 70 on Sunday, Stevens is tied for the team lead with 17 rounds of par or better this season. His top-10 finish was the 11th of his career and team-high sixth this season.

Quoting Coach Bill McDonald

“This was an unfocused, tired and unprepared golf team this weekend. I didn’t do a good job scheduling this spring and playing six events seems to have been a bit too much for us. We should be well aware of what we have to work on in preparation for the SEC Championship. I have to do a better job of getting us ready.”

Notable

South Carolina’s par-5 scoring average of 4.56 (-20) was second in the field.
The Gamecocks 10th place finish was just the second time in six events this spring the team finished outside the top-four.
