No. 19 Gamecocks Earn NCAA Tournament Bid
May 2, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 19 South Carolina earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014, marking the 23rd time the Gamecocks will play in the event in school history. The Gamecocks (20-6) will face East Tennessee State (16-7) in the first round Friday, May 12 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The winner will advance to play the winner of the match between host North Carolina, the national No. 9 seed, and Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday, May 13.
“We love the spot we got. We love that we were there just a few years ago in 2014. I know the coaching staff there and they did a great job hosting the NCAA regional a couple years ago,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “Most importantly we have a tough team in ETSU to start off but we’re looking forward to the matchup.”
The Gamecocks will head into the postseason after a productive spring with a 20-6 record, the most wins in a season since 2005. Carolina finished 9-3 in the SEC, a program record for SEC wins and tied a program best regular season SEC finish at third.
Tickets for each round of the tournament will be $5 for general admission and $3 for students with a valid student ID. Children ages two and under will be admitted at no charge.
