COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina men’s tennis coach Josh Goffi announced that Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of South Carolina and play for the Gamecocks. Cerundolo will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2017-18 academic year. “We are all very excited to have Francisco join the team. He will be a great addition to the solid and competitive culture that we have here at South Carolina,” said Goffi. “August can’t get here fast enough for us to start working with Fran to help him achieve his goals over the next four years and beyond.” Cerundolo is currently ranked No. 1370 in the ATP singles rankings. He has qualified four times in Futures, events in Argentina and once in Uruguay. At the Uruguay F3 Futures Cerundolo defeated Facundo Mena (325) and Nicolas Santos (457) to advance to the quarterfinals. At the Argentina F13 Future he defeated the world’s No. 12 juniors player, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, and advanced to the main draw. The Gamecocks finished the season ranked No. 21 with a 21-7 record, the most wins in a season since the 1997-98 season, and 9-3 in the SEC, a program record for SEC wins. South Carolina also tied a program-best regular-season SEC finish at third. Individually, two Gamecocks are ranked with Gabriel Friedrich coming in a No. 49, while Harrison O’Keefe is No. 71. The duo of O’Keefe and Yancy Dennis is ranked No. 13. Andrew Schafer leads the team with 27 singles victories on the year, including a 19-6 record in dual matches and an 8-5 record in the SEC.
