COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer kicked off its first day camp of the summer Monday, hosting over 115 participants at Stone Stadium. The five-day event, which is open to girls ages 5-12, runs throughout this week and gives youth soccer players the opportunity to train and learn from South Carolina’s coaching staff, current Gamecocks and other coaches from around the area.
Monday’s action opened with a stretch before the campers went to work on the field. Participants received hands-on training at four separate stations, taking part in various technical training throughout the morning. Following a lunch break, the campers competed in games and other exercises in the afternoon session.
This week’s camp is part of Shelley Smith’s Carolina Soccer School, which offers multiple clinics during the summer. The second session of day camps gets underway next month, and there will also be residential and ID camps held in July and August.
