Four Added To Berson's Recruiting Class

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina men’s soccer announced the addition of four student-athletes to its 2017 roster on Wednesday. Justin Bauer (Oviedo, Fla.), Kay In ‘t Ven (Kerkrade, Netherlands), Ian McGrane (Kingston, Pa.) and Paul Quildies (Essen, Germany) are set to join the Gamecocks this summer.

Justin Bauer (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo High School)

  • Son of Jeff and Sharon. Has two sibilings — Adam and Erica.
  • Played club for Orlando City and was able to train with their USL and MLS teams.
  • Spent time at the U.S. Academy.
  • Helped Orlando City to three consecutive seasons with 20-plus wins.

“Justin is one of the bright young goalkeepers in the 2018 freshman class. He has had a great background with the Orlando City developmental academy program, and has been trained and has played at a high-level. He reads the game well and makes good decisions. He will certainly help us at the goalkeeping position.”

Kay In ‘t Ven (Kerkrade, Netherlands/Charlemagne College)

  • Son of Jörg In ‘t Ven and Eveline Engels – has two brothers Jari and Finn.
  • Played in some of the top youth leagues in The Netherlands.
  • Most recently played with RKSV Berrkerveld.
  • Also was member of Roda JC U17 and Fortuna U19.

“Kay played for seven years in the Dutch Eredivisie in the highest academy level. He also represented several KNVB regional teams, with the best players from Holland. He’s an excellent technical player with a great work ethic. He will help us in the midfield.”

Ian McGrane (Kingston, Pa./UW-Green Bay)

  • Son of Jimmy Saba and Theresa McGrane. Has a brother, Lance, and a sister, Kara.
  • Spent two seasons at Green Bay but did not appear in any matches.
  • Began his collegiate career at Monroe College.
  • In his lone season at Monroe, the team was region and district champions and played in the national championship game.
  • Three-year letterwinner in high school.
  • Captured defensive player of the year honors twice and earned all-conference recognition on two occasions.

Ian McGrane is a goalkeeper who transfers in to us with college experience. He is technically sound and has an excellent physical presence. He will definitely help to bolster our goalkeeping corps.”

Paul Quildies (Essen, Germany/Morningside College)

  • Son of Bernd Quildies and Leonie Wannenmacher.
  • Played two seasons at Morningside College, an NAIA school in Sioux City, Iowa.
  • Started all 19 games at defender as a sophomore for the Mustangs, logging five points (2G, 1A) en route to earning Second Team All-GPAC honors.
  • Started 18 matches as a freshman, posting one goal on four shots en route to earning Honorable Mention All-GPAC recognition.
  • Went to Don Bosco Gymnasium in Essen.

    “Paul transfers into our program and brings excellent collegiate experience. He will strengthen us at the center back position, and can also play as a defensive midfielder. He’s a very good ball winning player, and has an excellent background in the game.”
