COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf rising sophomore Lois Kaye Go saw her run at the 115th North & South Women’s Amateur Championship come to an end Wednesday after losing in the Round of 16 of match play. Go, the No. 17 seed in the bracket, fell to top-seeded Kristen Gillman 3&2 in her afternoon match at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.

The contest between the two remained tight throughout the match, and Go cut Gillman’s lead to 1-up following a birdie on the par-5 10th. Gillman stretched her lead back to 2-up following a bogey by Go on No. 11, and a birdie on No. 16 secured the match for the No. 1 seed.

Go advanced to the Round of 16 after posting a 2&1 opening-round victory over Jennifer Chang Wednesday morning. The Cebu City, Philippines, native grabbed her first lead of the match following a bogey by Chang on No. 13, and she pushed her advantage to 2-up after Chang’s double-bogey on the par-4 14th. Go secured the win when Chang recorded another bogey on No. 17.

The top 32 golfers at the conclusion of Tuesday’s final round of stroke play advanced to match play at the North & South Amateur. Go, who shot an opening-round 79 (+8), bounced back with a 2-over 73 in the second round to finish inside the cut line in a tie for 17th (152, +10).

Carolina’s newest addition joined the Gamecocks in June after spending her freshman season at Boston College. She totaled five top-three finishes for the Eagles and won the 2016 Dartmouth Invitational and 2017 Lady EagleCat Invitational.

Go’s summer will conclude with an appearance in the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, set for Aug. 7-13 at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.
