Gamecock Athletics Partners with University Housing to Launch the Community Cup

Aug. 14, 2017

After a successful 2017 Community March Madness Challenge, Gamecock Athletics and University Housing have teamed up to introduce the 2017-2018 Community Cup.

This year’s Community Cup will begin on Aug. 17, when the Gamecock men’s soccer team faces UNC in an exhibition game; it will end at a date to be determined in April. Student can earn points for their community by attending any home athletic event and getting their Carolina Card scanned. In addition, on-campus students can attend housing events that will also earn them points towards the ultimate goal of winning the Community Cup. The community that has the highest percentage earned of student reward points and housing event points will be the winner of our inaugural Community Cup.

All residence halls/communities are eligible to compete in the Community Cup, and some of them have been combined due to size. The residence halls include Bates House, Bates West, Capstone, Cliff Apartments, Columbia Hall, East Quad, Green Quad, Honors Residence, Horseshoe (Woodrow/Thornwell, Rutledge, Pinckney/Legare, Harper/Elliot and DeSaussure), Maxcy, McBryde, Patterson, Preston, South Quad, South Tower, Women’s Quad, University Housing at Park Place and University Housing at Aspyre. Every two weeks, Gamecock Athletics will release the standings of our Community Cup.

In order to receive points for attending football, basketball and baseball games, students must go through the student ticketing process to receive a ticket for those games. For all other events, students must get their Carolina Card scanned at the gates.
