Fisk Tabbed Finalist For England Women's Young Player of the Year Award

Sept. 8, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore defender Grace Fisk has been selected as a nominee for the England Women’s Young Player of the Year Award, the English Football Association (FA) announced this week.

Fisk, a native of Bromley, London, joins Aoife Mannion, Ellie Brazil and Lauren Hemp on the list of contenders for the prestigious honor.

Voting for the award closed Thursday, and the winner will be announced at the FA Women’s Football Awards Friday night. The ceremony is set to take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Fisk captained the England U-19 squad in August at the European Finals, helping the Young Lionesses secure a berth in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. England moved past Scotland 2-0 in the U-20 Women’s World Cup play-off match to earn a spot in next year’s tournament. The Young Lionesses also notched a victory over Italy in their opening match at the European Finals in Northern Ireland.

The center back joined Carolina this summer after playing her freshman campaign at Penn State. Fisk made her debut for the Gamecocks against Wake Forest (Aug. 24), and the sophomore has earned the start in each of South Carolina’s last three matches.

Fisk and No. 7 Carolina are back in action tonight on the road against No. 4 Clemson. Kickoff from Riggs Field is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the match can be seen on ACC Network Extra through WatchESPN.
