VALENTINE, Neb. — South Carolina got off to a solid start at The Jackrabbit on Sunday afternoon, shooting a 6-under round of 282. The talented duo of senior Keenan Huskey and junior Scott Stevens led the Gamecocks in the opening round as both shot in the 60s for the first time during the 2017-18 season. Huskey provided the highlight day with his first career hole-in-one in competition for the Garnet and Black.

Stevens carded the low round of the day for Carolina with a four-under 68. He’s T-7th after recording just one bogey in his first 18 holes. The 2017 All-SEC/All-Southeast Region selection was hot on the front nine holes, tallying four birdies en route to a 3-under 33. Stevens played bogey free golf down the stretch with a 1-under 35. He’s T-7th heading into round two.

After a tough tournament to start the year, Huskey bounced back in a big way with an opening round 69 (-3) that featured two birdies and two eagles. The 2017 All-American shot 35 (-1) to start the day and was 4-under through seven holes after acing the 161-yard par-3 seventh hole. The team captain was bogey free down the stretch after starting with an eagle on the 576-yard par-5 10th hole that was followed by eight consecutive pairs. Huskey T-13th heading into Monday’s second round.

Sophomore Caleb Proveaux played solid shooting an opening round 72 (E). The Lexington, S.C., native, carded a 1-over 37 after bogeying his final two holes on the front nine. He bounced back right away with a birdie on hole 10. Proveaux, who is T-43rd, birdied 18 to get in the clubhouse at even par after shooting a 1-under 35 on the back nine.

Sophomore Jamie Wilson, who’s making his 2017-18 debut this week at The Jackrabbit, was bogey free through his first nine holes en route to carding a 1-under 35. The Mt. Pleasant, S.C., native birdied 10 and 11 to get to 3-under, but a double bogey and two more bogeys down the stretch pushed him to 2-over for his back nine. Wilson is T-56th at 1-over.

Junior Will Miles shot a 6-over 42 to begin the day, but was able to bounce back with a bogey free 2-under 34 on the back nine. The Hilton Head Island, S.C., native, is T-72nd at 4-over.

• Keenan Huskey’s ace on the par-3 seventh was his first during competition in his four seasons as a Gamecock. It marks the sixth hole-in-one during his golf career. Huskey aced the par-3 11th hole in the practice round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sept. 7 at The Farm.
• Huskey is tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring average at 2.50 (-2).
• Scott Stevens led the team with five birdies in the opening round on Sunday. He tallied his 37th career round of par or better.
• Stevens is tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring average at 3.70 (-3).
• Caleb Proveaux has shot par or better three times in four outings to start the 2017-18 season.

South Carolina will be paired with UCONN and UMKC in the second round on Monday. Will Miles will lead things off at 10 am ET on hole one for the Gamecocks.
