Carolina Welcomes Virginia Tech Tuesday Night

Men’s Soccer vs. Virginia Tech

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina (4-5-1, 0-2-1 C-USA) plays host to Virginia Tech (6-4-0, 2-2-0 ACC) on Tuesday night at Stone Stadium in the team’s final home nonconference match of the 2017 season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at The Graveyard.

It’ll be the just the third meeting all-time between the two programs in the first since 2000. The Gamecocks lead the all-time series 3-0-0.

Gates open at 6 p.m. ET and students get double rewards points for attending the match.

Carolina supported Ovarain Cancer Awareness Month all of September by wearing teal at home and on the road. The teal warmup shirts worn by the team are on sale at the Russell House Bookstore, the game day store and online by clicking here.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH

The Hokies are fresh off one of the finest seasons in school history in which they won 13 games and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. They went 10-1-3 in nonconference play and lost just four games, all to top-10 teams a year ago. Virginia Tech returns nine starters and 17 letterwinners this year from that squad. The Hokies are 6-4-0 in 2017 with wins over No. 14 Creighton and No. 1 Notre Dame. The beat the Fighting Irish 2-1 at home on Friday, Sept. 22. Marcelo Acuna leads the team in poinst with 15 (7G, 1A). He also leads the team in shots (37) and shots on goal (17). Acuna has scored half of the team’s goal in 2017. Collin Verifurth has scored three times, while Kristo Strickler has scored twice. Rory Slevin leads the team with three assist. Goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard has started all 10 of the team’s matches. He’s allowed 14 goals (1.40 GAA) and made 55 saves (.797 save percentage) while posting three shutouts.
