Gamecocks Travel to ITA Carolina Regionals

CARY, N.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team travels to ITA Carolina Regionals this weekend. The Gamecocks have six individuals compete in the singles draw and three doubles teams. The competition takes place in Cary, N.C., starting on Friday and continues through Tue., Oct. 17.
Three Gamecocks will kick off the day with 8 a.m. matches. Paul Jubb will play Clemson’s Marshall Dagostine. Freshman Thomas Brown will take on South Carolina’s only ranked opponent, Alex Favrot. The Clemson senior is ranked No. 107 in the ITA preseason singles rankings. Yancy Dennis will also compete at 8 a.m. against Alec Angradi from Charleston.
The next Gamecock to compete will be Wood Benton, who will take on Juan Estevarena from Charleston at 9:30 a.m. Shortly after, Thomas Mayronne, No. 84 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, will play Cameron Green from Furman University at 10 a.m.
Finishing off the first round for South Carolina will be Gabriel Friedrich, who is ranked No. 28 in ITA preseason singles. Friedrich will face Pat Hannity of Wake Forest at 1 p.m.
The second round of singles will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, with the final matches being played at 5 p.m. A consolation round for those that lose in the first round of singles will be played on Sunday afternoon.
Doubles competition will begin on Saturday, with three teams representing South Carolina. Friedrich and Mayronne will compete as a team, as well as Dennis and Benton and Jubb and Brown.
