Equestrian vs. South Dakota State
BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Carolina equestrian swept the hunt seat MOP honors in a 15-4 loss against South Dakota State on Friday at Dehaan Equestrian Center. Lauren Fabiano earned MOP for Equitation Over Fences while Madison Brayman was awarded MOP for Equitation on the Flat.
This marked Fabiano’s first career MOP in Equitation Over Fences and Brayman’s first since transferring to Carolina this past year for Equitation on the Flat.
“I’ve just been riding how I always ride and it’s working right now,” Brayman said. “Being a transfer, being in a better environment this year has really helped me. And I have great teammates who back me up and that really helps.”
South Dakota State jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in Equitation Over Fences before Brayman ended the run with Luna in a 78-77 win over Alissa Greenwald to make it 3-1 Jackrabbits. Fabiano took the final Equitation Over Fences point thanks to an 85-81 win over Jessica Martinez with Duke.
The Jackrabbits responded with four points in Horsemanship while the remaining point ended in a tie to extend their lead to 7-2 halfway through the meet.
Madison Sellman started Equitation on the Flat with a 75-68 win over Melissa Kerr with Mia to cut the deficit to 7-3. Brayman earned the final point of the day for the Gamecocks in an 87-83 victory with Duke over Jessica Martinez.
The Jackrabbits swept all five points in Reining to close the win.
“I think the biggest thing learned is you can’t come into a place and make a lot of mistakes if you’re going to come out winning,” head coach Boo Major said. “I thought we were pretty prepared and we weren’t. We had a lot of mistakes. As a group we’re disappointed in our performance overall.”
Carolina returns to action on Oct. 27th for its home opener against Oklahoma State. Live stats will be provided at gamecocksonline.com.
