FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. – The South Carolina volleyball team fell to 9-8 for the season after losing 3-0 at Arkansas Friday night (25-19, 25-15, 25-14). The Gamecocks are now 2-3 in SEC play, while the Razorbacks move to 13-6 overall and 3-4 in conference matches.

SET 1: Arkansas broke away from a close start to the game and won 25-19 for the early advantage. The Razorbacks used a 9-4 burst to extend the lead out to 18-12, with six of those nine points coming off unforced errors by the Gamecocks. Mikayla Shields led the team with six kills, three digs and a pair of blocks, but Carolina as a team hit just .135 in the game.

SET 2: The Hogs kept rolling in set two, taking a 13-3 lead from the jump. The home side out-hit South Carolina .419 to .067 to take the wire-to-wire 25-15 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

SET 3: It would be a sweep for Arkansas, thanks again to a fast start. The Razorbacks broke away early with an 11-1 run that made it 14-3. Mikayla Robinson emerged with a team-high four kills in the game, but the team again struggled offensively and hit just .062. Arkansas wrapped up the win by a score of 25-14.

Stat of the Match

The Gamecock offense hit just .091 for the match, with 19 hitting errors. Errors would be the x-factor for the match, as Carolina combined for 35 total errors on the night (19 hitting, six on service, four on serve receive, four on block attempts, two on sets).
