Men’s Soccer at NC State
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina (4-8-2, 0-4-2 C-USA) takes on North Carolina State (8-4-3, 3-3-1 ACC) Tuesday night in Raleigh at Dail Soccer Field in the team’s final nonconference match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be televised on ACC Network Extra/WatchESPN.
The all-time series is tied 9-9-1 and the Wolfpack have won the last two meetings dating back to 2014. State is currently on a six-match unbeaten streak (4-0-2) and is fresh off a 3-2 road win at No. 5 Louisville last Saturday.
Carolina supported Ovarian Cancer Awareness all month long in September both at home and on the road by wearing teal warmup shirts for their matches. In addition to the shirts, the Gamecock coaching staff and support staff wore teal polo shirts on the sidelines at every game.
The team’s hope is to promote awareness for this cancer and encourage women to get regular check ups. Contact your local ovarian cancer support group for more information at 888-682-7426 or visit the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s website by clicking here. Remember, NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!
The teal warmup shirts worn by the team are on sale at the Russell House Bookstore, the game day store and online by clicking here.
FROM THE COACH
“NC State is a very good team this year, and they are on a roll right now. They’re coming off a good streak of results. This will be a big challenge for us on the road after a tough road match that went into double overtime on Friday night. We are also nursing some injuries. We have had a good couple of days of training and recovery, so we look forward to the challenge.” ââ’¬” head coach Mark Berson
SCOUTING NC STATE
The Wolfpack are led by first-year head coach George Kiefer. He spent the past 15 seasons at USF where he led them to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances. Kiefer’s Wolfpack team is on a hot streak currently as they are unbeaten in their last six matches (4-0-2) and fresh off a 3-2 road win at No. 5 Louisville. They’ve lost just one match at home all season, falling to No. 2 Wake Forest 3-0. NC State has another top-five win on their resume in 2017 as they beat Clemson 1-0 early in the season when the Tigers were ranked No. 3. Manny Perez leads the team in points with 14 (5G, 4A). His team-leading five scores have come on just 14 shots. Julius Duchscherer and Tanner Roberts each have four goals. Roberts also has two assist and ranks second on the team with 10 points. David Loera leads the team with five assists. Perez has four and so does Ade Taiwo. Leon Krapf has started every match in goal posting six shutouts, 38 saves and a 1.08 GAA.
