Elexa Bahr Garners SEC Offensive Player Of The Week Honors
Oct. 27, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore striker Elexa Bahr has been tabbed the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Friday afternoon. The accolade marks the second weekly conference honor for the Buford, Ga., native.
Bahr secured the SEC Regular-Season Title for the No. 3 Gamecocks Thursday night after netting the game-winner in their 1-0 victory over No. 17 Florida. Her tally came in the 80th minute when she collected a pass from fellow forward Savannah McCaskill near the top of the attacking third. Bahr raced around a pair of Gator defenders before smashing it home from 15 yards out to put Carolina up 1-0 late in the match.
The second-year standout is tied with McCaskill for the most goals (7) and game-winners (4) among the Gamecocks this season, and her 14 points rank second on the team. Bahr’s seven tallies in 2017 are six more than she had all of last year.
With the victory over Florida, Carolina (15-1-1, 9-0-1 SEC) became the fifth school in league history to win back-to-back SEC Regular-Season Titles. This year marks the fourth conference championship for the Gamecocks, who won the 2009 SEC Tournament before finishing atop the league standings in 2011 and 2016.
Top-seeded Carolina opens play at the 2017 SEC Championship in Orange Beach, Ala., on Tue., Oct. 31. Its quarterfinal match, which kicks off at 6 p.m. ET, will be against either eighth-seeded Arkansas or ninth-seeded Ole Miss.
