Gamecocks Undefeated in the Second Round of Birmingham Futures

Oct. 28, 2017

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina senior Gabriel Friedrich and freshman Francisco Cerundolo continued their dominance in Birmingham ITF Futures qualifying Saturday. The Gamecock duo posted decisive wins to move into Sunday’s third-round action.

After a rain delay, Cerundolo was the first Gamecock to compete in the second round facing off against Samuel Pointon. Representing his home country of Argentina, Cerundolo recorded multiple breaks in each set to finish the match 6-3, 6-2.

Friedrich competed shortly after Cerundolo, earning a quick win over Egypt’s Aly Zaghloul. The Gamecock senior competed on behalf of his home country, Brazil, and finished his match 6-0, 6-0 to move onto the third round.

Both Gamecocks will be back in action tomorrow, needing just two more wins to reach the main draw of the event. Be sure to follow the Gamecocks on Twitter @GamecockMTennis for updates from the event.
