Berson Honored with key to the city of Columbia
Oct. 30, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina head men’s soccer coach Mark Berson was honored with a key to the city of Columbia on Monday afternoon at Stone Stadium. It is the highest honor bestowed to a citizen in the state’s capital city.
City councilman Howard E. Duvall Jr. was on hand to award Berson with his key in a surprise presentation.
Berson is seeking to become just the fourth head coach in NCAA Division I men’s soccer to reach 500 career wins. He currently sits at 499 after his team came from down 2-0 to beat Old Dominion 3-2 on Senior Day yesterday. The Gamecocks travel to UAB (5-6-4, 1-5-1 C-USA) Friday night for the regular season finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Birmingham.
