Gamecocks Sign No. 9 Recruit Destanni Henderson
Nov. 8, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Destanni Henderson (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Fort Myers HS) has signed a National Letters of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. She will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2018-19 academic year.
“Destanni is the gem of all point guards in her class,” Staley said. “I’m especially excited to add another quality guard who has great court vision, impacts both sides of the ball and loves to create shots for others.”
The 5-foot-8 Henderson is the top ranked point guard in the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 9 player overall. A two-time Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC) All-State selection, she was the News-Press Fort Myers Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017 as well. Helping her Fort Myers Green Wave to back-to-back state championships, Henderson was on the 2016-17 All-USA Today Florida First Team and Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball last season as well, averaging 17.7 points, 4.4 assists and 4.0 steals. In 2016, she helped USA Basketball pick up a bronze medal in the FIBA U17 World Cup.
Henderson is the first signee of Staley’s 2018 class.
