Pyle Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas — Senior goalkeeper William Pyle was named to the 2017 Conference USA Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team presented by InTouch Credit Union the league office announced early Wednesday afternoon. He’s one of just 15 players in the league to be named to the team which recognizes standouts on the field and in the classroom.

Pyle sports a 3.519 cumulative GPA majoring in public health. He’s been on the C-USA and SEC Academic Honor Rolls every semester in his three seasons as a Gamecock. The three-year starter was a 2017 Senior Class Award candidate and earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team last season.

The Charlotte, N.C., native, has started every match for Carolina between the posts this season. He was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season this year after leading the league in saves (83) and saves per game (5.19) while posting three shutouts.

South Carolina opens play tonight in the 2017 Conference USA Tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against second-seeded Old Dominion. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex with a free live stream of the match available through CUSAtv.
