Welsh-White Named an AVCA Diversity Award Recipient

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina volunteer assistant coach Julian Welsh-White was named one of 10 recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Diversity Award. The recognition enable the recipients to attend the annual AVCA coaches convention and receive hands-on mentorship and professional development.

Welsh-White is in his first season with the Gamecocks. Before coming to Columbia, the Collingswood, N.J. native was an NCAA Champion and AVCA All-American while at Division III’s Springfield College for the 2015-16 season. He started his college volleyball career at Ball State.

“2017 brought the deepest pool of talented aspiring coaches in the history of the award,” said AVCA Diversity Development Team Chair and Butler University Head Coach Sharon Clark in a release from the organization. “The Diversity Team had a tough task during the selection process with so many worthy candidates. We are thrilled with this year’s awardees and look forward to them experiencing an informative and invigorating convention.”

The AVCA Convention runs Dec. 13-17 in Kansas City, Mo.
