Gamecock Men's Golf Announces Star-Studded 2017 Fall Class

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina men’s golf announced a loaded 2017 fall signing class on Tuesday morning, as three top-50 players chose to continue their amateur careers in Columbia. Nineteenth-ranked Ryan Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.), 38th ranked Teddy Tetak (Limbach, Slovakia) and 43rd ranked Harry Corbin (Inman, S.C.) all signed National Letters of Intent to join the Gamecock golf family.

“I don’t think there is any doubt this class is the best I’ve had here in my tenure. All three could have an immediate impact on our golf program,” head coach Bill McDonald said. “They are hard working kids from great families and they have plenty of talent as well. Coach Amos has done an outstanding job helping us evaluate talent since his arrival and this class represents a lot of hard work on his part. We’ve both worked diligently to find talented players who will fit into our culture and enhance it. Coach Amos and I look forward to their arrival and we’re excited about the impact they could have on our program.”

“It’s not often you can get your entire recruiting class all ranked in the top-50 in the country, especially a class that is so physically gifted and has so much potential to get better,” associate head coach Jake Amos said. “I think this is one of the best and most exciting 2018 classes in the country and we can’t wait to get them on campus and see how they make us better.”

Harry Corbin (Inman, S.C./Boiling Springs High School)

  • Son of Harry (AKA Chuck) and Amy. Has one younger brother — Graham.
  • Beta Club member in high school. Undecided on major.
  • Dad is a South Carolina graduate and he grew up a Gamecocks fan.
  • Won The Blade Junior Classic and the Carolina Mountain Pro Tour as an amateur.
  • Had top-five finishes at the Bobby Chapman Junior, Joe Cheves Junior, AJGA Evitt Junior All-Star, Southern Cross, the Bengal Invitational and the Tom Fleischer Invitational.
  • Finished second and third at the U.S. Kids World Championship.
  • Helped lead his high school team to four-straight state championships.
  • First three were South Carolina Class 4A titles, and the last one came in Class 5A.

“Harry might be the most physically impressive player I’ve recruited in my 12 years here. It literally sounds like a car door slamming when hits the ball. I asked coach Amos to check him out, and he made his mind up after one hole. Jake said, `We have to get this kid — he’s my kind of guy.’ Harry loves to compete and he has a great personality as well. He’ll be a great fit here.”

“We like to keep the best recruits in state and I think we have achieved that in getting Harry. He has a lot of raw talent that we think will translate really well in the collegiate level, and we are looking forward to helping him develop his potential. He is going to be a great addition to our roster.”

Ryan Hall (Knoxville, Tenn./Halls High School)

  • Son of Brian and Stephanie, and has an older brother — Andy.
  • Plans to major in tourism management.
  • Chose Carolina because there are no downsides.
  • Helped lead Halls High School to back-to-back TSSAA Class AAA State Championships in 2016 and 2017.
  • Was the 2017 TSSAA Class AAA Individual State Champion.
  • Won the AJGA City of London Junior Championship over the summer.
  • Shot 69-66-70 for a 54-hole total of 205 (-11) en route to the win.
  • Shot an even par 288 and T-7th at the 2017 Polo Golf Junior Classic.
  • Qualified for Match Play at the 2017 USGA U.S. Junior Amateur. Defeated sixth-seeded Eugene Hong 2&1 in the round of 64.
  • 2015 and 2017 Honorable Mention Rolex All-American.

Ryan is an excellent student as well. He’s the total package, and we were very fortunate to get him out of the state of Tennessee.”

He has won at every level of junior golf and comes in with the type of resume that will get any coach and teammate excited that he’s coming to South Carolina. He has an unbelievable work ethic combined with a great attitude. He has all the attributes we look for in a high-level recruit and, we are lucky to have him.”

Teddy Tetak (Limbach, Slovakia/QSI International School of Bratislava)

  • Son of Roman and Andrea and has a twin sister – Timotea.
  • Undecided on major.
  • Chose the University of South Carolina because it was the perfect fit and the tough competition faced on a regular basis in the SEC.
  • Had five wins in junior golf career with several other top-five finishes competing in AJGA events.
  • Member of the Slovakian Junior National men’s golf team.
  • Won the Slovak Junior Championship and finished runner-up in the Slovak Amateur Championship.
  • Finished runner-up at the 2017 Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, leading the field in birdies and eagles.
  • Won his qualifier at Longboat Key Golf Club in Florida to punch ticket to the 2017 USGA U.S. Junior Amateur.
  • Joined future teammate Ryan Hall in advancing to match play at the event with a T-15th finish in stroke play.
  • His 65 (-6) in the final round of stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur was the lowest in the field.

“Teddy was a later addition to our class, but he’s extremely impressive and we were very fortunate to get him to Carolina. He has great intensity and drive to get better. His physical skills are at a high-level, and he’s very focused on continually improving his game. Teddy really impressed me this summer at the U.S. Junior, not only with his fine play, but coming out on the course to cheer on future teammate, Ryan Hall, was an unselfish act you don’t see much in junior golf these days.”

“Teddy has just come off a great summer in junior golf and has been getting better and better since he committed to South Carolina. He is going to come in with a lot of experience at the top-level junior golf and we expect he will make an immediate impact on our team. His game is already well suited to the collegiate level and he has the right mentality to be as good as he wants to be.”
